Typical 2K

Sure enough, that snow and rain yesterday stuck around all afternoon. By the time I got off work it was 32* and wet. As in, my bike ride was not going to happen. Instead I stayed home puttering, cooking and cleaning. Not as fun as riding my bike, but it was good to get chores done.

This morning’s swim was rough. I was exceptionally sore from yesterday’s lifting session, which surprised me because I felt like I lifted less than I normally do. Maybe that week or so away from the weight room had more of an affect than I thought.

The Workout:

  • 300 swim/200 pull/100 kick warm-up
  • 8×50 drill down, swim back
  • 300 kick with fins
  • 300 pull
  • 300 swim
  • 100 cool-down

Nothing crazy, just a typical 2K swim. The pool was extra crowded today, I think because the YMCA is doing renovations on the main exercise room and people who normally work out there decided to swim instead. But there were never 3 people in my lane, so I didn’t have to worry about circle-swimming. I remember when I swam at the YMCA in Ashland, I would always have to share the lanes with 2 or more people, many of whom were at totally different levels. No one could figure out how to choose a lane with a similar speed, so I was always stuck behind someone floating on their backs with a snorkel mask, and sometimes fast swimmers were stuck behind me. I used to dread going to the pool, and it’s no wonder why!

Here’s hoping the sun comes out this afternoon, and I can get back out on my bike!

How do you deal with sharing lanes? Do you get annoyed, or does it not bother you?

  1. This sounds mighty selfish but I don’t like sharing my lane! Too many waves and flailing arms hitting me. Ha. :)

    • Haha it’s not selfish–it’s honest. I get annoyed when my lane mates run into me or kick me. I try to tell myself that I probably did it when I first learned to swim. But yes, it’s frustrating!
