(Bonus points if you know where that title came from!)
Hello and happy summer! I can’t believe it’s already mid-June. I feel like all year I’ve been saying “time if flying by, but at least it’s not summer yet!” And all of a sudden May turned into June, and just like that summer is upon us, the year is half-over, and I’m wondering where all the days went!
Running has been going okay lately. The first three weeks or so after Eugene were terrible–each run was a struggle, each slower than the last, and I was getting so frustrated. On top of that, I started having Achilles tendon pain, which is something that I do not mess around with. I cut out speed work and hills, and that seemed to help a little. I also got our friend, a massage therapist, to work on it and now I’d say it’s about 90% better. Runs have been going better too. I got into the habit of running as slowly as I wanted, but realized that that just encourages complacency on runs. So now I try to run at a certain pace–it’s still not fast, but I don’t let myself just plod along. I think that’s helping my running come around. I’m still not seeing the paces I’d like to see, but at least running doesn’t feel like death anymore.
Not that I’ve run outside.. oh.. at all this week! My allergies got bad fast this year. All of my workouts this week have been at the gym, since running outside makes my face feel like it’s going to explode. I’m not too bummed about it though; it’s been hot here all week–not exactly prime running weather anyways.
That explains the ‘hello’ part; but what about the ‘goodbye’? No, I’m not shutting down by blog–this is way more fun than that! Tomorrow morning I’m flying to New York, where I will meet up with my sister and a group of other young folks, and from there we are off it ISRAEL. We’ll be going on a tour of the country, exploring natural areas, cities, and holy sites. The program we’re attending has an outdoor emphasis, so activities will include camel trekking, rafting down the Jordan river, and canyon hiking. We’ll also stop at many historical, cultural, and religious sites. I am beyond excited!! I’m hoping to get to do a little running while we’re there (I love running in foreign countries, and seeing the area that way!) but I don’t know whether that will be an option.
I’ll be back at the end of the month! Have a great rest of June!
